Playing cards is a good way of spending time. There are a lot of games that may be played with the help of cards and they are called card games. Usually people gamble playing cards. Poker and Blackjack are one of the most spread games in the world and are played by thousands of people.
Cards have long and striking history. According to one of theories they appeared in France to entertain Carl VI. But it is a legend. In reality, first cards appeared in Ancient Egypt. But they were made of grafts with numbers written on them. In India people used shelves to create cards. And cards that were very similar to modern appeared in China in 12th century.
The first documents that tell us about cards are of the year 1379 and these documents describe one of the games with the use of cards. According to documents, there were only numbers put on the cards and the games were on military topics. And these cards with numbers were decorated in France. French people added figures of people to it, turning them into masterpieces.
Very quickly cards became world-spread. And gaming appeared thanks to it. With the spread of gaming, new laws were created either to control it or to forbidden it. In spite of it, companies that produced cards appeared.
In 15th century French people adopted the modern look of cards. People consider that four suits symbolise four the most important things for the knight: clubs is a sword, spade is a lance, diamonds symbolise emblem, and hearts mean shields.
According to some theories the number of cards in the pack of cards corresponds to the number of weeks in a year – 52. Four suits mean four seasons. Every suit has 13 cards and every season has also 13 weeks. The sum of points of 52 cards is 364 and it corresponds to the number of days in a year.
Sometimes people consider cards to have mystical abilities. Some people even tell fortunes using cards.
But almost every person has a pack of cards in his/her home to play with friends.
