It is hard to imagine a child without a toy. A child always carries its favourite toy and falls asleep with its favourite teddy bears.
So, the most popular toys are:
- Dolls. A doll is a toy that is an image of a person or an animal. Dolls are especially good for girls. And mostly girls like to play with them. But dolls may also be an element of design and be the real masterpieces. Such dolls are made only with aesthetic purposes.
- A ball is one of the most favourite toys of children and adults. It is the main thing needed for playing active games. A ball is a toy in the form of the round and made of different materials that depend on the game in which the ball will be used. The size of the ball also depends on the game for which the ball is needed. There are universal balls that may be used for many games.
- Toy cars are favourite toys for boys. Technological progress has influenced these toys a lot. And nowadays there are a lot of toy cars with remote control. Such cars have different sizes and colours. Besides, some toy-cars are artworks that imitate real cars. But such toys are made for exhibitions and are used as decorations.
Society is changing. And every day new needs of people appear that must be satisfied. Nowadays it is very hard to satisfy people's needs as people have a lot of requirements to the objects that surround them. And a toy is not the exception from the rule.
New toys were created. Some of them are still popular, others were forgotten. Here are some toys that were very popular before:
- Yo-yo. Many people think that this toy has been recently created. But this toy has a long history. The first images of yo-yo may be seen on ancient Greek vases. In the 17th century this toy got to Europe from China and became the toy of aristocrats. Americans got to know about this toy thanks to Philippine's inhabitants. And they began to use it as a gun. As a toy yo-yo became popular and widely spread in the world in the past century. And 3 million yo-yos were sold the first day of its distribution. This toy even visited space. Jeffery Hoffman took it to space.
- Slinky. Richard James was the inventor of this toy. He was a sailor and invented this toy occasionally. He was holding a wire and occasionally dropped it, and it fell on the flour somersaulting. When the sailor came home, he told to his wife about it and at that moment the idea to make a toy of a spring appeared. It was coloured and a beautiful and original toy appeared.
- The Rubik's Cube was invented by Erne Rubik. At first it was called "Magic Cube." It has become famous very quickly and even won the award of the best Puzzle of the Year in Germany.
There are a lot of other toys that are very popular and world-wide sold. But nowadays the most popular toy is computer, because it offers a great number of games.
